A computer system comprises hardware and software components, aiming to offer a powerful computational tool. These systems play a crucial role across diverse domains, aiding us in numerous tasks. The prevalence of the internet has significantly bolstered the utilization of computers for information sharing and communication. Computer systems empower us to store, process, display, and transmit information. Even in a basic modern computer system, multiple programs are typically required to carry out various functions effectively.

The benefits of E-Government

Governments are embracing the internet to provide services to business (G2B) and citizens (C2C), as well as government to government (G2G), citizen to citizen (C2C), government to supplier (G2S) and government to employee (G2E).

What is e-government? Electronic government is the process of transformation of the relationships of government with its constituents - the citizen, the business and between its own organs, through the use of the tool of Information nd Communications Technology (ICT).

The aim is to bring about enhanced access, transparency, accountability and efficiency in the delivery of government information and services.

The benefits of e-government usually include improved: quality of citizen services, internal efficiencies, law enforcement, education and information, promotion and outreach activities, safety and security, health care services and management, and  involvement of citizens in the democratic process.

Theoretically, e-government can result in significant cost reduction. This premise rests on the belief that the automation of processes reduces manpower costs, besides costs of accounting, compilations, reporting and review.

Product procurement and delivery, key elements in the supply chain, can be seamlessly integrated into e-government platform. Many believe that e-government can provide seamless services to draw agencies together, leading to more citizen- centric services.

It also increases trust in government.

E-Government

Electronic commerce has been defined broadly as the sharing of business information, maintaining of business relationships and conducting of business transactions by means of telecommunications networks.

This definition encompasses the activities of e-government as those of conducting the affairs of state on various levels and with the greatest rational involvement of citizenry.

Governments are embracing the internet to provide services to business (G2B) and citizens (C2C), as well as government to government (G2G), citizen to citizen (C2C), government to supplier (G2S) and government to employee (G2E). It is the use of information and communication technologies to support government function and services and to support citizens on their participation in political processes.

In year 2000 European Union Summit in Lisbon set ambitious goal of making Europe the world most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy. It resulted in the eEurope Action plan to exploit the full potential of the Internet to promote a competitive economy.

It means office automation and internal management information systems and expert systems, as well as client-facing web sites. The objective is to make it easier to deal with local, regional and national governments by making services available electronically.

The benefits of e-Government are reduced costs through more efficient processes, the integration of disparate agencies systems, and improved service to citizens via the internet and other electronic channels. Efficiency in administration and providing broad access to information and transactional services to the citizenry are recognized as the primary concerns in the e-government.

Investment by government will also decrease the cost of doing business through simplification of procedures self-service systems and one stop shop for enterprises. The biggest beneficiaries here will be the small to medium enterprises, which are the backbone of the European economy.

E-Government

In the commercial sphere, business to business (B2B), business to consumer (B2C) and business to employee (BTE) electronic business has come widely accepted.

Electronic or e government is the process of transformation of the relationship of government with its constitution – the citizens , the business and between its own organs, through the use of the tools of Information and Communications Technology.

It means that the government is embracing the internet to provide services to business (G2B) and citizens (C2C), as well as government to government (G2G), citizen to citizen (C2C), government to supplier (G2S) and government to employee (G2E).

Many countries use e-government as an enabling tool to increase efficiency, enhance transparency, collect more revenue and facilitate public sector reform.

In year 2000 European Union Summit in Lisbon set ambitious goal of making Europe the world most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy.

It resulted in the e-Europe Action plan to exploit the full potential of the Internet to promote a competitive economy with objective is to make it easier to deal with local, regional and national governments by making services available electronically.

The benefits of e Government are reduced costs through more efficient processes, the integration of disparate agencies systems, and improved service to citizens via the internet and other electronic channels.

Three factors are critical for the successful implementation of e-government. These include willingness to reform, availability of information communications technology infrastructure and the institutional capacity to absorb and manage change.

Investment by government will also decrease the cost of doing business through simplification of procedures self-service systems and one stop shop for enterprises. The biggest beneficiaries here will be the small to medium enterprises, which are the backbone of the European economy.

E-government requires the government fundamentally rethink all aspects of governance and service delivery to see how it can take advantage of technology and new business models to improve the efficiency of internal processes, as well as change the nature and quality of government interactions with both individuals and businesses.
